Puster Valley
Puster Valley combines dramatic Dolomite peaks, forests, alpine lakes, traditional farming and lively towns. A region shaped by nature, hard work, history and life in the mountains.
Discover Puster Valley
Puster Valley feels wide in every sense. Wide landscapes, long valleys, deep forests and mountains that seem to rise almost everywhere at once. Between Bruneck, the side valleys and the Dolomites lies one of the most iconic alpine landscapes in South Tyrol.
This is a region shaped not only by tourism, but also by work and everyday mountain life. Farming, forestry, craftsmanship, industry and tourism all exist side by side here. The valley has a strong local identity and a reputation for hardworking, grounded and welcoming people. Life in the mountains was never especially easy, and perhaps that is part of what gives the region its character.
Bruneck forms the cultural and economic centre of the valley. From here, roads and old routes lead toward the Dolomites, the Ahrntal Valley and the eastern Alps. Historically, Puster Valley was always a place of movement and exchange between different alpine regions.
The surrounding mountains tell an even older story. The Dolomites were once part of an ancient tropical sea, and their dramatic rock formations still reveal traces of coral reefs and geological processes that shaped the Alps millions of years ago. Today, these peaks are among the most famous mountain landscapes in the world.
Places such as Lake Braies, the Three Peaks and Lake Antholz have become internationally recognised through films, photography and social media. Sometimes almost too recognised. Especially in summer, the region occasionally discovers a natural phenomenon known locally as “legendary mountain traffic”.
Yet beyond the famous viewpoints, Puster Valley still contains quieter places: old farms, forests, hidden paths, small villages and traces of mountain history that are easy to miss when rushing from one highlight to the next.
With SouthTyrolQuests, Puster Valley becomes a playful exploration of nature, history and alpine culture. Our GPS-guided riddle tours invite you to slow down, notice details and discover the stories hidden between mountains, lakes and villages.
Puster Valley is perfect for curious travellers who want more than postcard scenery. Although, to be fair, the scenery here really is quite unfairly photogenic.
