Discover Bolzano

Bolzano is where many sides of South Tyrol meet at once. Italian cafés and alpine landscapes, university life and old trading streets, museums and nightlife all exist surprisingly close together. The city feels lively, urban and constantly in motion, while mountains and vineyards remain visible almost everywhere you look.

As the cultural and economic centre of South Tyrol, Bolzano has become increasingly international in recent years. Students, artists, musicians, travellers and locals shape a city that feels more Mediterranean than many visitors expect from the Alps. Summer evenings stretch late into the night, people gather in piazzas and bars, and everyday life often happens outdoors.

At the same time, Bolzano is deeply connected to history. The old town with its arcades, narrow streets and hidden courtyards still reflects its past as an important trading city between north and south. Many of South Tyrol’s most important museums are located here, including the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, home of Ötzi the Iceman, probably the region’s most famous resident from the past 5,000 years.

Nature is never far away either. The Talfer Meadows open up green space right beside the city centre, while the Rosengarten massif rises dramatically in the distance. Vineyards climb the surrounding hills, and cable cars quickly connect the city to quieter mountain areas above.

With SouthTyrolQuests, Bolzano becomes a city of clues and hidden details. A small alley, a courtyard, a mural, a sign or an overlooked architectural detail can suddenly become part of a story.

Bolzano is perfect for curious people who enjoy discovering cities slowly, on foot and with open eyes.
